support home owners
The goal of the Dominican Center housing program is revitalization through resident leadership which is cultivated and encouraged at each step in the program. Dominican Center works with homeowners to make their homes healthy, safe and code-compliant.
Neighborhood improvement project-NIP
The Dominican Center is one of eight community-based NIP agencies. The City of Milwaukee's Neighborhood Improvement Project (NIP) assists eligible owner occupants in repairing their homes. All repairs are based upon municipal building code violations, lead hazard reduction, health and safety concerns. NIP is not a remodeling program. The repairs are authorized by the Department of Neighborhood Services (DNS) and funded by the Community Development Grants Administration (CDGA). To be considered for NIP program eligibility, homeowners must meet guidelines. These guidelines can be found at http://city.milwaukee.gov/NIP or by contacting the Dominican Center at 414-444-9930.
Residents gain an understanding of the expenses of homeownership such as taxes, insurance, maintenance and utilities. Residents work with a financial literacy counselor who reviews the participant's personal finances and helps to develop a monthly budget.
