Amani Emergency Resource Hub

The Amani Emergency Resource Hub is a community-centered initiative designed to ensure Amani residents have access to essential everyday items that support health, stability, and dignity. Located at the Dominican Center, the hub helps individuals and families meet basic needs during challenging times while strengthening neighborhood support systems.

At the heart of the Amani Emergency Resource Hub is a commitment to making sure that every interaction is rooted in support, respect, and dignity. Residents accessing resources are welcomed in a way that honors their experiences and recognizes that everyone needs support at different times. Our goal is not only to provide essential items, but also to create a space where community members feel valued, respected, and supported.
Through partnerships, donations, and community collaboration, the Resource Hub provides free access to a variety of essential items that many households need but may not always be able to afford. Our goal is simple: to ensure Amani residents have reliable access to the resources that help families stay healthy, safe, and supported.

Available Resources
The Amani Emergency Resource Hub provides a range of supplies that support daily living, family needs, and household stability.
  • Community Powered Fridge: Our Community Powered Fridge offers fresh and healthy food for neighbors in need. Community members, partners, and organizations help keep the fridge stocked so residents can access nutritious food when they need it.
  • Household Cleaning Supplies: Residents can access essential cleaning products to help maintain safe and healthy living environments.
  • Hygiene Kits and Personal Care Products: The hub provides hygiene kits and personal care items such as soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, and other essentials that support personal well-being.
  • Diapers, Pull-Ups, and Baby Wipes: Families with young children can receive diapers, pull-ups, and baby wipes to help ease the financial burden of caring for infants and toddlers.
  • Winter Wear: During the colder months, the hub distributes winter essentials including coats, hats, scarves, and gloves to help residents stay warm and safe.
  • Adult Incontinence Products: We provide adult incontinence supplies to support the dignity and comfort of older adults and individuals who need them.
  • Protein Drinks for Older Adults: Protein drinks are available to help older adults maintain proper nutrition and support overall health.
  • Laundry Supplies: Residents can access products needed to wash clothes, helping families maintain hygiene and cleanliness.

Community Powered Support
The Amani Emergency Resource Hub is powered by the community. Donations from partners, local organizations, and residents help ensure these resources remain available for neighbors who need them most.
Get InvolvedYou can support the Amani Emergency Resource Hub by:

Hydroponics

The Dominican Center's Hydroponics Farm is a vibrant community-driven space where Amani residents can come together to grow fresh produce, learn sustainable farming practices and build a healthier future. DC has the most complete hydroponic farm in the country and uses four different methods. We're also growing our urban farm to include outdoor growing space and aquaponics units.

Join us and learn more about building a farm from the ground up, with the latest and best in market hydroponic systems in North America. Gain valuable skills and become a leader in a growing industry that will serve the community.

With the support of our partners, we seek to:
  • Engage organizations working in Amani that address stress, trauma, loss, mental health and other risk factors in adults and youth.
  • Increase residents’ skills in advocacy and securing resources related to family well-being and life-long learning.
  • Increase residents’ participation in decision-making with organizations and systems focused on education and family well-being.

Adult Education

Access to adult education improves the well-being of the entire family. We offer a supportive, goal-directed environment where Amani residents can reach their educational goals with individualized learning plans. In partnership with Milwaukee Area Technical College, we offer:

  • Adult Basic Education: Students receive one-on-one academic support in reading, writing, math and computer literacy.
  • GED/HSED Preparation Classes: MATC staff partner with Dominican Center tutors to provide adult classes on basic academic skills necessary for a referral to the General Education Diploma (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) programs at the other community based organizations. Students completing the program receive degrees directly from MATC.
  • Basic Computer Classes: For those looking to build their computer skills. Taught by MATC, this free Basic Computer Class is open to anyone in the community every Friday (except holidays) at 10am. Whether brand-new to technology or needing a refresher, students get hands-on support and learn to navigate the internet and email, create and save documents and other essential skills.
Contact Dominican Center at [email protected] to sign up for Adult Education Program. We are currently accepting enrollment in no fee adult education classes.
